                                                 A3 ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE

Since August 1992, schools have been required by the Department for Education and Employment to include information on rates of authorised and unauthorised absence in their prospectus and annual reports.

The TMA Summary Statistics for Autumn 2007 term are as follows:

Total number of pupils of compulsory school
age on roll for at least one session...................................................... 626

Percentage of pupil sessions (half days)
missed through authorised absence...................................…………. 4.27%
(Attendance rate better than the national average)

Percentage of pupil sessions (half days)
missed through unauthorised absence..................................................0%
(Unauthorised absence rate better than the national average)

For all our concerns, it is extremely important that we know why a child is absent from school.  Parents are asked to telephone school as soon as possible on the first day of absence  and complete an absence form on their return to school. (01908 562262)

Limited absence from school for holidays during term time is legally acceptable, but such absence must be sanctioned by the Headteacher prior to the absence.  If approval is not given prior to the holidays, the absence must be recorded as “unauthorised” according to DfES directives.

The school earnestly hopes that parents do not take children out of school during term-time unless for very special reasons.
