Class teachers are responsible for the general well being of pupils in their class. However, in the event of any child being taken ill or having an accident, the school matron (as well as other staff) has first aid qualifications and takes care of the child in question. If considered necessary, parents will be contacted and transport may be provided by the school either to home or to a medical centre. Minor injuries are dealt with in school using resources from our first aid supplies.
Emergency details, telephone numbers (home/work), addresses, emergency contact details etc, are kept on record in school. Information sheets must be completed by parents before a child is admitted to school. Parents are requested to notify school of changes to the information given as they occur. Details of defects in sight, hearing, serious allergies, asthmatic conditions or speech defects should be shown on the admission form.
Members of the school welfare and administration staff are prepared to administer medicines providing a letter of explanation is sent to school with the medicine. This applies to all liquids, tablets, drops, inhalers etc. No child should bring medicine into school unless her/his teacher has been informed in writing or a parental visit has been made. All medicines / inhalers should be clearly labelled with the child’s name and class.
