Thank you very much for enquiring about our primary-based Graduate Teacher Programme. We have enclosed an information pack, which includes an application form and some guidance notes.

Since January 2004, there has no longer been a minimum age requirement for the GTP programme. However, we feel this course is mainly intended more for mature career-changers and we will still be taking into account previous work experience and suitability to teach when assessing applications.

Please note that, if you wish to make a formal application, you must ensure that, along with the application form, you also submit :

·        Evidence of placement/work experience in a UK primary school, which, as a guide, should total at least 10 days minimum (if you do not have this at the time of application, it must have taken place and the reference received before the deadline date)

·        Two written character references which must be sent with your application (please do not just give us the names of referees). Please ensure at least one of the references pertains to your experience in schools. All references from schools or employers should be on letter-headed stationery.

·        If your qualifications were obtained overseas, you will need to provide written NARIC equivalencies for your secondary school English, Maths and Science results as well as your degree. This must be written letter received as a result of an individual enquiry made to NARIC, not merely a comparability statement from the Internet.

Applications will need to be submitted by the end of February 2008 to be considered for the first round of interviews. Applications received after that date will be put on the reserve list (if places are not filled) or held over to the 2009 intake.

If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to the first stage preliminary interview at Two Mile Ash School by the Head of Initial Teacher Training. If your application does not get shortlisted, you will be notified in writing.

Please bear in mind, that if you are called to interview in due course, I would need you to bring your original degree and secondary school certificates, plus a complete set of photocopies for us to keep for our files, and a current passport-sized photograph of yourself. (Please check well in advance that you are actually still in possession of your certificates, as duplicates can some time to request and be processed).

Your application will be acknowledged in writing when we receive it, but please be aware that the shortlisting process will not occur until March 2008. All applications are logged and dated as they are received. If you have not received an acknowledgement within one working school week, please telephone the school to check if we have received it. From past experience, we strongly advise you to make sure you have retained a photocopy of your application before submitting it.

Further advice and guidance about our teacher training activities can also be found on our school website (www.tmaonline.org.uk, click on the Teacher Training tab on the top menu line).

Good luck with your application, and I hope we can be of real service to you and that you will be able to join the teaching profession in these exciting times.

Yours faithfully,

Liz Cullen
